Nubar Peacock Feathers

Hooobah! Sorry for the vanishing act lately, guys. Just a bit of blogger's fatigue kicking in, along with moving day being a month away. Starting to get down to the business-end of things.

The "London Plan" has hit a bit of a snag in that I can't actually get a work visa in the UK unless I already have a job lined up and a sponsor. So the trip this year will basically have to be a fishing expedition, and if I get offered anything I'll have to say "Hold that thought!" and go back to Oz, apply for a work visa and then come back in a couple of months :)

If I don't get offered anything, then at least I will have taken the temperature of the job pool, and can work on some stuff to impress someone enough to want to "import" me.
Sigh. It's never easy!

So anyway - today I have another one of my Nubar haul for you. The cult fave "Peacock Feathers"....



Now, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this. It just wasn't duo-chromey enough for me. In the photos it looks really nice, but when I wore it, it just looked like a quite normal navy blue/purple. None of the other colours "flashed" enough for me...


That being said, everything else was great - application, durability, etc. I guess I was expecting a bit more because of all the hype.




Bleh. I'm off to bang my head against the wall for a bit.
But not so hard I leave a dent and can't get my bond money back :)

Nubar Earth

Just another quick one this morning before I go off to work. A week after the hailstorm and I'm still taking the train to work, which is sucking my will to live a little more each day (not so much the actual train ride - it's the walking home after already spending 5-6 hours on my feet with no break that's killing me).

This is "Earth" - the most perfect Emerald green it's ever been my pleasure to come across...



Two coats and one layer of Diamont as top coat. Perfect application, great durability. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record with the green Nubars...


I took this on holiday to Phillip Island a few weeks ago and all the girls sat around doing our nails. Over half the group chose this colour - there's just something so luxe about a deep, velvety green :)



St Patrick's day is coming up soon, isn't it? I'd strongly recommend this one if you wanna get in the spirit of things!

Nubar Reclaim

Sorry guys - no MWCILTRMND Monday today. I just had a shocker of a weekend with the hailstorm that hit Melbourne. My poor car (and only asset) has been damaged and I've been on tenterhooks for days now with insurance and everything. I'm just not up to it.
So let's look at some nails instead, huh?

Reclaim is hands down the best behaved holo I've ever tried.
And the colour is really quite unusual. A kind of mellow bean-green...


This is Nubar Foundation, 2 layers of Reclaim and a layer of Nubar Diamont.

It went on so easily! I had none of the usual probs holos have like pulling, dragging etc. It went on just like any normal polish would. Perfect formula consistency, great coverage in two coats. SO impressed!

What's even better - I wore this for 3 days straight at work. 3 days!
I don't usually bother with holos when I'm working cos they just peel off within about half and hour. But by the end of 3 days this was just starting to look a bit raggedy at the tips - I probably could have left it another day if I'd wanted. Amazing...

Unfortunately no pics of this in sunlight as we had a really overcast, rainy week. But I think you can see it's sparkly goodness anyway.

I don't know if the Nubar base & top coat had anything to do with the results I got. I'm kind of curious to try some of my other holos with the same base & top coat combo and see how they hold up, now.

Nubar Lemon Sorbet

I have found the perfect yellow for me!
Finally I have something that suits my skin tone.
Unfortunately, this means nothing if you have the application skills of an ape off it's tits on cough syrup.

I've put this on twice and done a less than sterling job twice. I don't know if it's just because it's an unusual colour that all mistakes look HUGE, but I give up. I can't fault the formula, so it must be me.

So here's what I want you to do. Look at the polish. Look at the polish. Don't look around the polish - just look at the polish...



You need a good 3 coats to make this opaque, but when it is it's the perfect "fluffy chick" yellow.


Warm down-lights make it look more banana-y, but it's a true light yellow, like in the outdoor shots.

I've had so many compliments at work over this. It's a colour that you just don't find in the stores over here. I've been disappointing many by telling them it's not available in Oz.



I think I might use this as my Easter mani - it matches the fluffy chickens we're selling on the counter! Now if I can just get the application right...

Nubar Haulage

Sigh. Sorry I'm not exactly burning up the net with posts at the mo, guys!
I have a mixture of excuses, so please pick one and pass them on.

1. I'm tired.
2. I'm busy working on a new writing project that has my study looking like a serial killer's lair.
3. I hate most of the photos I've taken with a passion and want to re-do stuff before I post.
4. I've been working on the next chapter of "Phalanges", which is now finished and sitting in the Serial Killer's Lair waiting to be proof-read, then torn into itty bitty pieces and spat on.
5. Have I done "tired" yet? I always seem to be lately.

So anyway - would you like to see my new babies?

With Nubar being a very "green" formaldehyde free brand, I should have been on these suckers like a fly on poop yonks ago. Unfortunately Nubar aren't sold here in Oz and email to the nearest Nubar rep went unanswered. I later found out from other bloggers that's pretty much par for the course if you're not in one of their areas. Yay. All I wanted was a simple yes or no answer - geez...

I considered persisting with making contact, but I am so goddamn freaking tired of having to chase companies to give them my money I just said "Fine then, be like that!" and gave up. Then Kaz came to the rescue and now - babies!

I've already tried one of the Versaces (to DIE for!!) and I'm wearing Lemon Sorbet right now, which is the perfect shade of yellow for me I'm proud to report :) Thanks Kaz - thy recipient of Awesome bows down to you, your humble sock-puppet forevermore :D

In other news - I'm going to Phillip Island to commune with the penguins for the weekend and getting back Monday. So depending on how I travel there may or may not be a MWCILTRMND Monday next week. I might have the "Phalanges" chapter posted by then, so you'll have something to amuse or revolt you in the meantime :)
