My first tape mani

Erika, the one behind the blog Chloe's nails, makes great manicures using tape. I finally decided to give it a try myself, on my sister's nails. I decided to use a glitter polish, because that's in this case more fool-proof I believe. Plus, painting someone else's nails is always a fantastic opportunity for using glitter, since I will not have to take it off myself! ;)

Because I think they fit together so well, I used the same colours as I used here. This includes OPI Show It and Glow It, again, yes. It's the only glitter polish I have that is opaque after one (thick) coat, and that's neccessary for this tape manicure.

This is how I did it: after painting the nails pink, I put a piece of tape on it (I used normal tape, not the so-called Scottish tape as Erika uses), painted glitter over it and removed the tape as soon as possible. (That's why a one coater is needed: you can't wait for the polish to dry to add another coat because when you remove the tape once the polish is dry, more polish will stick to it and come off too.) By clicking on the picture, you can see properly where I put the tape.

I admit, I'm not as good as Erika yet, but I like it for a first try! For great tutorials and much more ideas with tape, see here. Erika is the queen of tape!

Quidditch

Last week I went to the new Harry Potter movie with a friend and I made her an appropriate manicure. Ah well, I know that Quidditch isn't played at all in the seventh movie, but I really liked the idea and wanted to make it.

The gorgeous blue sky is What's With The Cattitude from OPI, with sponged clouds. With a nail art pen I painted two players on broomsticks (one from Griffyndor (Harry!) and one from Slytherin, as you can see from the colours of their capes) and the six hooped goal posts (three on each side). The balls are done with a dotting tool: the red Quaffle and the two black Bludgers (one of which is chasing Harry), and did you already notice the Golden Snitch? The player from Slytherin is just flying away from it... Haha.

Opi - Russian Navy (Suede) is het tweede Suede lakje welke ik bezit, naast deze liet ik jullie de vorige keer ookal We'll Always Have Paris zien, en vandaag is het de buurt aan Russian Navy (Suede)!

Opi - Russian Navy (Suede) is the second Suede polish I own, I've got We'll always have paris (Suede) too, you can find that one here! So today it's time to show you Russian Navy (Suede!)

Russian Navy is een blauwe lak die mat opdroogt. De eerste keer was ik net zoals bij We'll always have Paris een beetje sceptisch of ik de lak wel zo geschikt en leuk vond.. Na hem een jaar verstopt te hebben in mijn kast besloot ik hem weer eens uit te proberen. En raad eens? Ik vind hem helemaal leuk nu! Soms moet je een lak dus gewoon een tweede kans geven :-)! Matte lakjes vond ik in het begin helemaal niet mooi, maar de laatste tijd begin ik het steeds leuker te vinden!

So I put it away for about a year, and now I decided to take a look at it again. And guess what? I really like it now! Sometimes you've got to give a polish a second chance! I didn't like the matte polishes at first sight, but now I totally like them!

Hier kun je Russian Navy nogmaals zien. Haha op de achtergrond zie je het pootje van mn kat! Ze vind het altijd erg interessant als ik foto's aan het maken ben! Goed de applicatie van deze lak is echt geweldig, je hebt maar 1 laagje nodig! Streeploos, mooi dekkend en hij droogt mooi mat op, als je niet zo van mat houdt kun je er natuurlijk een topcoat overheen doen. Dan komen er ontzettende mooie glittertjes tevoorschijn!

You just need one coat, it's not streaky, its opaque ánd it dries matte very good! If you don't like matte polishes you can put a topcoat above it, after using a topcoat you'll see very nice glitters!

En als laatste nog even een snel fotootje toen mijn kat het swatchen niet zo leuk meer vond. Dit is geen goede foto om de lak op te zien, maar het leek me wel leuk om even te laten zien hoe boos onze kat kan kijken :)!


Hihi and for the last time a pic when you can see my cat, when she didn't like all that pictures anymore, it's not a good picture, so it's just for fun to show you how angry my cat can watch :)!

OPI - Flower to Flower

Afgelopen zomer kwam ik thuis met het minisetje van de OPI Summer Flutter collectie. Flower-to- Flower is één van de lakjes uit deze set, en omdat oktober nog steeds de maand van borstkanker is en roze hiervoor staat was dit het perfecte moment om deze uit de kast te halen!

Last summer I bought the miniset from the OPI Summer Flutter collection. Flower-to-Flower is one of the polishes from this set, and because October is the month of breast cancer and pink is the colour to wear, this was the perfect moment for this polish!

Flower-to-Flower is echt een bubblegum roze en heeft zilveren shimmer. De shimmer is slecht te zien op de foto helaas. De laatste tijd begin ik toch de lakjes van OPI leuker te vinden! Alhoewel ik nog steeds China Glaze wel een leuker merk vind. Deze foto is gemaakt buiten in het zonlicht!

Flower -to-Flower is a real bubblegum pink polish with silver shimmer. Unfortunately the shimmer isn't very noticable in my pic. I like the polishes from OPI more and more lately! But still I prefer China Glaze. This pic is made outside in sunlight.

Deze foto is binnen gemaakt met flits. Hier ziet de lak er meteen al een stuk donkerder uit, maar je ziet hier wel de shimmer beter! Applicatie was wel prima, je hebt wel dik 3 laagjes nodig om deze dekkend te krijgen, best zonde eigenlijk want het is een minipotje, zo is hij natuurlijk héél snel leeg! De kleur roze is niet mijn favo, maar ik vind hem eigenlijk wel leuk!

This pic is made inside with flash. The polish looks real darker here, but it's more like my first pic, but you can see the shimmer better in this one! Application was good, but you need 3 coats for full coverage.. Bummer! I've got a minibottle so it's very quick empty.. The colour pink is not my favorite, but actually I like it!

Essence & OPI Comparison

Een tijdje terug liet ik jullie Essence - Choose Me zien. In mn stash vond ik nog een lakje welke hier erg op leek, dus tijd voor een vergelijking! Ik heb Essence - Choose Me vergeleken met OPI - Catch Me in Your Net.

A while ago I swatched Essence - Choose Me. I found a polish which really looks like this in my stash, so time for a comparison! I comparised Essence - Choose Me with OPI - Catch Me in Your Net.

Dit zijn de twee lakjes naast elkaar. Ik heb een minipotje van OPI, dus deze is uiteraard een stukje kleiner dan het potje van Essence. Op het eerste zich lijkt het lakje van OPI een stuk donkerder in het potje dan die van Essence.

These are the 2 bottles next to each other. I've got a minibottle from OPI, so this one is a bit smaller than the one from Essence. At first sight the OPI polish looks a bit darker.

Dit zijn beide lakjes op mn nagels. Als ik er nu niet bij zou zeggen welke waarop zat zou je denk ik niet kunnen zien welke van Essence is en welke van OPI. In ieder geval op mn wijs en ringvinger zit: Essence - Choose Me, en op mn middelvinger en pink zit: OPI- Catch me in your net. Ik denk dat deze echt wel de meest indentieke lakjes zijn die ik tot nu toe vergeleken heb!

These are both polishes on my nails. If I don't say which polish is were you really don't know it! Anyway on my index and ringfinger is Essence - Choose Me, and on my middlefinger and pinkie is OPI - Catch Me in Your Net. I think these are the most identical polishes I ever swatched!

 Hier zie je links OPI - Catch Me in Your Net en rechts Essence - Choose Me. Applicatie is van beide lakken even vervelend. Ze zijn beide slecht dekkend, ik heb hier bij elke nagel 4 laagjes opgebracht. Het aanbrengen ging overigens wel makkelijk! Dit zijn trouwens de lakjes waar ik ontzettende blauwe nagels aan overhield, en dat na 5 min swatchen! Wil echt niet weten hoe mn nagels eruit hadden gezien als ik deze een week opgehad zou hebben! Deze 2 zijn dus absoluut dupes van elkaar, als je één van de lakjes zou willen kopen zou ik zeggen ga voor die van Essence: 1 -> Een stuk goedkoper dan OPI, 2-> Applicatie is hetzelfde, over de houdbaarheid kan ik niet veel zeggen, of ik nou OPI of Essence draag, bij mij blijft alles minimaal een week mooi zitten.

Here you can see OPI - Catch Me in Your Net on the left, and on the right: Essence - choose Me. Application with both is horrible, they're both very sheer, with both I used 4 coats..  These are btw the polishes where i've got my blue nails from.. After 5 minutes of swatching! I don't want to know how my nails looked like after a week wearing these ones.. So these 2 polishes are absolutely dupes, when you want to buy one of the two I would say go for Essence: 1 -> It's way cheaper than OPI, 2 -> Application is with both polishes the same. I can't say anything about the sustainability, all polishes last for a week minimum.
