Flower Sticker Nail Art

Good morning! Today im going to show you a nail art that i done yesterday. I used a sponge for this nail art, i didnt mean to make gradient but i think effect from the sponge is really beautiful as a background colour. And then i put beautiful sticker flower from Etude House.

These are what i used :

-Flower Sticker from Etude House
-BL505 from Etude House
-PK212 from Skinfood
-BL601 (sorry i forgot to put the polish for pic taken with them :( )
-Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base and Top Coat
-050 White on White from Revlon

These are combination background colours that i applied by sponge. They are BL505, PK212 and BL601.

Chinese New Year

February the 3rd Chinese New Year will be celebrated, it's the date when the year of the rabbit begins. There was a Chinese New year themed nail art contest organized by Nail Art Express, the amazing blog I told you about before, and this is my entry!

I will tell you how I came up with this design, which might not look really Chinese New Year-like at first sight. You would probably expect something red and gold, the traditional colours for Chinese New Year. However, I chose not to use them for two reasons. 

As the Singaporean girl behind Nail Art Express noted here, when you use these colours it's hard to avoid ending up with a design that borders on tacky. I definitely do like tacky nails sometimes, but I figured she doesn't - so my main goal became to avoid tackiness.

Of course I could have taken the challenge and tried to make a design with red and gold that was not tacky. But I didn't because since it was for a contest, I wanted my design to stand out. Everyone would probably use red and gold, wouldn't they? 

Bottom line: average, tacky Chinese New Year nail art, no sir! So instead I came up with this. A quite cute design actually: light pink and gold with dots and a rabbit on each nail. I also added some Chinese signs using a nail art pen. I have no idea what they mean or if they even mean something, haha.

Unfortunately my entry wasn't included at first. The deadline was January 23rd, so I sent it this afternoon, but it turned out that it was already the next day in Singapore (the time difference is seven hours)! Haha, oops :)

Quidditch

Last week I went to the new Harry Potter movie with a friend and I made her an appropriate manicure. Ah well, I know that Quidditch isn't played at all in the seventh movie, but I really liked the idea and wanted to make it.

The gorgeous blue sky is What's With The Cattitude from OPI, with sponged clouds. With a nail art pen I painted two players on broomsticks (one from Griffyndor (Harry!) and one from Slytherin, as you can see from the colours of their capes) and the six hooped goal posts (three on each side). The balls are done with a dotting tool: the red Quaffle and the two black Bludgers (one of which is chasing Harry), and did you already notice the Golden Snitch? The player from Slytherin is just flying away from it... Haha.

Sinterklaas is a traditional Winter holiday figure in the Netherlands (and in a very few other countries), celebrated annually on the 5th of December. (Thank you Wikipedia.) He's some kind of Santa Claus: they both wear red, have a white beard and come along in December to give presents to children. Actually, Santa Claus is derived from Sinterklaas! Dutch people brought the celebration to other parts of the world and started to pronounce it in an English way. Anyway, I'm going to celebrate it this weekend with my family so I painted Sinterklaas' head on my nails!

For the beard I used a sponge, a nail art pen for the eyes and mouth and a striper for the little yellow cross. But if you just omit the crosses and perhaps add a little white... it's Santa!

For my fellow Dutch nail art fans who're not that experienced yet, here's a picture of my nails last year (it's only Sinterklaas' hat). This is something anyone can do!
